“Differentiation Is Key if You Want to Succeed in This Very Competitive Market”

Yann Bautista Wiberg, Business Development Director of Peter & Sons on the evolution of online casino games and the demand of the modern market.

Slots by Peter & Sons have been on the fast track to gaining popularity among players (seriously, have you played their D`Cirque, or the latest hit Sheriff Colt yet?). For a brand-new software developing name, getting its content noticed in a busy world of iGaming speaks volumes about the quality of its games. So, we extended an invitation to the team of Peter & Sons to sit down with us for an exclusive interview. Yann Bautista Wiberg, the company’s Business Development Director, walks us through the studio’s strategy for creating games, shares his thoughts on what modern casinos are looking for, and reflects on the year 2020, which introduced the new normal and forced many businesses to adapt their strategies. And it looks like the team of Peter & Sons has successfully figured this one out.

Without any further ado, here’s Yann.

We are excited to get acquainted with the team of Peter & Sons. Please tell us more about the key members and the idea that led you to start a new software developing brand in an extremely competitive segment of e-gaming.

We are a fresh-new game development studio formed by an international group of professionals and game enthusiasts with broad experience in mobile games and casino game development.

We started the company about two years ago. Like many other studios, we began doing bespoke development for other companies, especially in the casino industry. It was the best way of financing ourselves. We did a few pretty successful titles for Casumo. After that, we decided to go on our own and start producing our own games.

We cannot help but wonder – what is the most exciting thing about the online gaming industry that motivates you to keep exploring and introducing new products and services?

It is working with all these international professionals and competencies, mathematicians, programmers, artists, musicians, fighting together to bring forward new ideas and products that reach players worldwide. The production speed also makes it very appealing, especially coming from mobile game development, where production times are much longer. This sector is more dynamic, where you see things happening. You can prototype, leverage, test, analyze, and try new things rapidly. We are talking about four months to produce an average slot game.

This fall, the industry's media was abuzz about Oryx Gaming, adding Peter & Sons to its list of exclusive partners. Please share your expectations and thoughts about this partnership.

Signing this exclusive deal with Oryx Gaming and recently joining Yggdrasil's YG Masters program has been a significant step. It will help us grow our distribution, establish our brand, build up the team, our portfolio, and explore new ideas.

Can you tell us more about your belief of what a modern slot should look like, and the standards your production chooses to follow?

For new studios like us, differentiation is key if you want to succeed in this very competitive market. There is an increasing demand among operators for better content, higher quality in all aspects of the games, especially with the increase of regulated markets where the margins are smaller. We aim to fill the gap between social and real money casino games, providing rich content with outstanding art, surprising thematics, and engaging mechanics that are easy to understand for all kinds of players.

How would you describe your target market and its players, and what would you say is the biggest challenge in creating slots for that market?

At the moment we are more oriented towards a western market, we have limited resources and our markets are still very focused.

Can you provide us with teasers for upcoming releases? If not in terms of names and certain features, then in terms of the concept in general?

Our next game, the Punch Club slot, is expected to go live by the end of November through Oryx Gaming operator network. It's a game we are very proud of and it represents our work well.

An underground club where betting revolves around illegal fights.

It has a clean, engaging mechanic, played on a classic 5x3 panel with 25 pay lines. The game features Wilds with random multipliers and a Free Spins Bonus Game, where collecting Scatters transform high symbols (Fighters) into wilds, awarding extra spins.

Rome - The Conquerors is a slot machine that we will launch at the beginning of next year.

It's a Ways game with expanding panels featuring random multiplier wilds, scatters, and two Bonus games with increasing multiplier levels, and where you can gain up to 20 free spins and a multiplier Wild of 15X.

Startups have the advantage of being more flexible; they can adapt themselves more easily to the circumstances and adopt the best practices from the beginning.

Would you say that the year 2020 added additional challenges to growing a business? And if so, what was the strategy that helped Peter & Sons to stay in the game?

COVID is challenging everybody in all possible ways.

Startups have the advantage of being more flexible; they can adapt themselves more easily to the circumstances and adopt the best practices from the beginning.

In our case, we have employees in varied places, and the entire team is used to work remotely; also, the good thing is that lots of the sales work we did was before the crisis, and now we are more focused on the production.
