South Korean Online Gambling Operators Arrested in Thailand
Last week, more than a dozen of South Korea citizens were arrested in different parts of Thailand for running illegal online gambling sites that catered exclusively to South Koreans. Police seized their computers, mobile phones and bank books that showed records of gambling transactions. The group leader and a potential organizer has not been located yet, and the police officials do not know whether he is in Thailand or South Korea.
Online gambling is prohibited in both Thailand and South Korea. However, the penalty for running an online gambling business in Thailand is less harsh: maximum of three years in prison and a fine raging from 500 to 5,000 baht versus up to 5 years of imprisonment and up to 30 million won fine in South Korea. A combined table of gambling laws around the world with references to the original documents is available here.
