Romania Creates More Open Online Gambling Regulations

Romanian government has created a legal framework that allows online gambling operators based in European Union to obtain licenses in this country. The license fee is 100 000 EUR for three months. In some cases, the license may be extended for up to six months.

The new regulation imposes a new layered gambling tax beginning with a 1% tax applied to all players who win anywhere between €133 and €15,000. For all winnings between €15,000 and €100,000 the tax will be 16%, and on revenues exceeding €100,000 it will raise to 25%. The government hopes to earn extra tax revenues and help secure a stronger framework to address issues like underage gambling and compulsive gambling.

The new system implementation will start in February 2015. Currently, KeyToCasino database contains 500 online casinos that allow players from Romania to register. Of those, there are 46 online casinos that support Romanian language.
