New non-branded search data from Blask indicates that lottery-related queries account for approximately 78% of France’s gambling search demand. This figure vastly outweighs interest in sports-related products, which typically receive significant industry attention. According to the report, online casinos generate roughly 10% of demand, while live dealer, betting, and poker each represent about 4%. Blask suggests these findings serve as evidence that market assumptions, particularly regarding sports betting, often fail to align with actual consumer interest in every jurisdiction.

To help operators navigate these complexities, Blask has introduced a new category-level analysis feature. This tool is designed to break down demand across various verticals and subcategories by market. It intends to help operators understand specific player intentions using non-branded search signals, providing a clearer picture of what users are looking for in different countries.

The data highlights pronounced variations across different global markets. For instance, in Brazil, online betting represents about 52% of demand, driven largely by football. In contrast, India shows a more even split, with lottery at 35% and live dealer at 29%. Within Europe, Italy’s demand is heavily shaped by football seasonality, while Switzerland displays a casino-first structure with online casinos capturing 38% of demand.

Blask identified two consistent patterns across its analyzed markets. First, established categories often remain the largest drivers of traffic. Second, local regulations materially shape demand, often shifting interest into adjacent or offshore segments when specific verticals are restricted. This data underscores the necessity of localized strategies for international operators.
