ASA Reviews Gambling Ads
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), a self-regulatory organization of the advertising industry in the United Kingdom, has reviewed gambling advertisements in response to the public concerns related to accuracy and transparency of gambling-related promotions. In particular, the issues were raised about the ways the casinos promote free bets, and the need for ASA to be proactive in terms of social responsibility, such as ads that may potentially affect underage population.
The research was conducted in collaboration with an independent agency Research Works as a part of a four-point UK Government review that included British Code of Advertising Practice and Committee of Advertising Practice. The agencies considered changes to their practices regarding the advertisement of casino promotions and various gambling activities.
