• Short Stud

  Poker

  Slang for 5-card stud, as opposed to 7-card.

• Wide Area Progressives or WAP

  Slots

  Slot machines that are linked to others in other casinos. This builds up the jackpots more quickly.

• Paytable-pays

  Slots

  A schedule detailing the payouts for all winning combinations.

• Hedge

  Casino

  A bet placed against a player's original wager to reduce risk. E.g. the insurance bet in blackjack to lock in a sure profit.

• Full House

  In poker, three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank, e.g. JJJ55.

• Buried

  Poker

  1) A card dealt face down;

  2) A card placed so deep in the deck it won't be played that hand;

  3) A description of a player with heavy losses.

• Expected Value or EV

  Casino

  The theoretical, long-term return for a particular strategy.

• End of the Race

  Craps

  Part of the dealer expression "six ace, end of the race", meaning that the shooter has rolled a 7.

• Drop

  1) The total amount of money exchanged for chips in a casino;

  2) Lose money gambling.

• Action

  1) The total amount bet by a player during a session;

  2) A bet or the act of betting.
