  • Even Money Bet

    A bet that can win an amount equal to the original wager.

  • Early Surrender

    Blackjack

    An option, when the dealer shows an ace or face or 10 card, for the player to give up the hand and save half their original bet.

  • Push or Tie

    BlackjackCasino

    A situation where the player neither wins nor loses.

    Synonym: Standoff, same as Tie or Push

  • Split/Splitting Pairs

    Blackjack

    When a player receives two cards of the same rank as their first two cards, they can split them to form two separate hands by doubling their bet. A profitable option under certain circumstances.

  • Multiple Decks

    Some card games are played with more than one deck. In blackjack, the more decks there are, the higher the house advantage.

  • Double Down

    Blackjack

    In blackjack, the option to double one's original bet. However, the player must take one and only one more card.

  • Third Base

    Blackjack

    The player to the dealer's far right or the spot the player occupies. The player is the last to act before the dealer. Also called the anchor.

  • DAS

    Blackjack

    Acronym for double after splits in blackjack. This is an advantage for the player.

  • Surrender

    Blackjack

    1) In blackjack, the option of not playing a hand and losing half one's bet;

    2) In roulette, losing half an even money bet (e.g. black or red) when the ball lands on 0 or 00 (which are the only green numbers).

  • Soft Hand

    Blackjack

    A hand containing at least one ace that can be counted as either 1 or 11 without busting.

    Antonym: Hard Hand
